The House that Ruth Built (Tampa Version)

Saturday Terazza and I ventured out to Legends Field, the spring training home of the New York Yankees, to watch the Bronx Bombers take on the Tampa Rays. It was a great day to get out and watch baseball, and after paying way too much for spring training tickets, Terraza and I settled into our seats 10 rows behind home plate. The stadium was packed, former Yankee legend Reggie Jackson was sitting only a few rows in front of us and hearing all the New York accents around me I swear I was in Yankee Stadium.

After the national anthem, comedian/actor Martin Short threw out the first pitch. While it didn’t make it across the plate, he did get a standing ovation. It was a pretty good game, as the Rays jumped out to an early lead and never looked back winning 7-2.

Mr. Steinbrenner did not leave out a detail with this stadium. From the lattice detail work on the top to the surly beer vendors, I felt like I was in New York. Even as you leave the stadium, you have Frank Sinatra’s New York, New York playing in the background. The only suggestion I have is ice cream in the mini batting helmets.
